Nau mai ki Te Wharekura o Mauao
Ko Te Wharekura o Mauao he kura motuhake, he kura Māori he kura ā iwi hoki i whakapūmau ai kia whakatutuki ngā tikanga mātauranga ngā tikanga taketake Māori hoki o Ngāti Ranginui o Ngāi Te Rangi o Ngāti Pukenga o Tauranga Moana whānui.
Te Wharekura o Mauao is a special character, co-educational Māori Medium school that has been established to meet the education needs of the three Tauranga Moana Iwi and others who may want to follow a Kaupapa Māori Philosophy.
The learning and teaching environment that Te Wharekura o Mauao provides is a Maori initiative in support of the Crowns commitment to equitable educational outcomes for Maori.
Te Wharekura o Mauao endeavours to provide tamariki with an education which respects their Tino Rangatiratanga (their dignity, rights and uniqueness as Maori); which excites them and challenges them to reach their full potential and achieve their personal standards of excellence. All school activities will be designed to advance these purposes.
The kaupapa of the school stems from the iwi belonging to Tauranga Moana. Principles of kaupapa Māori permeate all aspects of the school, impacting on how the school’s governing body operates, the way in which teaching programmes are designed and implemented, and how the students are treated.
Te Wharekura of Mauao offers an education that is based on whanaungatanga priniciples, with bilingual and bicultural staff that have relevant expertise, qualifications and experience and are knowledgeable about Māori tikanga and kawa.
The history, tikanga and kawa of Tauranga Moana will be integrated into all educational programmes offered at Te Wharekura o Mauao.
